Neptune Beach, FL — Ponte Vedra Beach writer Maggie FitzRoy is pleased to announce a book signing for her first novel, “Mercy’s Way,” at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018 at The BookMark in Neptune Beach.

“Mercy’s Way” is a tale of love and loss on the Oregon Trail in 1845. The story centers on a young woman, Mercy Montgomery, who risks her life to cross the continent by wagon train to marry a man she has never met.

Prior to delving into fiction, FitzRoy authored two nonfiction books in collaboration with the Beaches Museum & History Park: “Images of America, Ponte Vedra Beach” and “Images of America, Jacksonville Beach.” She has also worked as a writer and photographer for The Florida Times-Union, First Coast Magazine and other Northeast Florida publications.

“Writing fiction was a natural next step for me in my career,” FitzRoy said. “I have always been drawn to love stories, and history is one of my passions, so writing historical romance has been fun.”

To bring her novel to life, FitzRoy did extensive research on the Oregon Trail and the settlers who made the arduous trip.

As a governess on a seaside estate in Cape Cod, Mercy has all the ingredients necessary for a contented life. Until she loses her job and impetuously answers a newspaper ad, agreeing to marry a widower with three young children in Oregon Country.

She sets out on a 3,000-mile wagon train journey to her new home, willing to risk her life for a family she can call her own. Even if it means struggling to survive storms, accidents, exhaustion, deadly diseases and starvation along the way.

What Mercy didn’t bargain for was falling in love with the handsome leader of her wagon train. And having to choose between honoring her arranged engagement or being true to her heart.

FitzRoy lives in Ponte Vedra Beach and is currently working on her second historical romance. She is a member of the Florida Writers Association, The National League of American Pen Women and the Romance Writers of America.

Her book signing coincides with Independent Bookstore Day, which is held annually the last Saturday in April. BookMark owner Rona Brinlee said she is excited to celebrate the day by hosting a book signing for a local author.
